TIDINGS
September 2009
We are God’s Servants Working Together
Fr. Larry+ to Preside at 9/11 Memorial
Many parishioners may not realize the
intensive front-line role that our own Priest-in-
Charge, Larry Recla, played with the Red Cross
as the morgue chaplain at
Ground Zero, ministering to
those thousands of police and
fire fighters who lost so many of
their comrades.
Fr. Larry will preside at a
memorial service at the Villages
Veteran’s Memorial Park at 6pm on Friday,
September 11th, for all who were affected by the
events of that day- not only at the World Traded
Center, but also at the Pentagon and in the field
at Shanksville, PA.
Almost everyone remembers where he or she
was when the world changed
forever on September 11, 2001. It
is a series of events forever
imprinted on our personal and
national psyches, and those
closest to the events still feel the
pain as if it just happened last
week.
For Father Larry, it’s important
to memorialize, “The people in the
buildings who didn’t know what
was going to happen …and people who went into
the buildings knowing what they were facing.”
Father Larry serves as the chaplain to the first
responders in The Villages, and the service will
honor survivors, individuals who whose lives
were touched by the events of September 11,
and police & fire fighters. The Veteran’s Memorial
is located near the west end of the golf car bridge
at 441 near the Square at Spanish Springs.
Sept. 26th- “Welcome Back” Beach Party
The sign up sheet is in the Parish Hall for the
great “Welcome Back-
Beach Party & Bar-b-q”
at nearby Camp Geneva,
planned for Sat., Sept.
26th from 1 - 7 pm.
The day will consist of
relaxation, recreation &
fellowship in the
outdoors, a barbeque meal with all the fixings,
and then evening vespers on the beach.
The folks at Camp Geneva do ALL the work
from preparation to clean-up, so everyone can
enjoy the entire day without a care!
WE will have unlimited use of canoes,
paddleboats, a beautiful swimming pool, picnic
groves and a sandy beach bathing area on the
scenic spring-fed lake. We’re also planning
games contests and more! In addition, there is a
large adjacent air-conditioned cafeteria for those
who want to get out of the heat. Changing rooms
and showers are
also included, so
bathers can dry off
before supper if
they choose.
The all-inclusive
event costs $12 per person, including the hot dog
& hamburger barbeque supper with all the
fixings, including beverages. We want to make
sure that no one misses the fun, so there is a
“scholarship fund” if anyone finds the cost
prohibitive, and we’ll even provide transportation
for those who need it. For the “scholarship,” just
see Fr. Larry or Donna Bott.
For those unfamiliar with the 107 acre Camp
Geneva, it has served as a national cheerleading
camp for many years, and lies just around the
bend from our church grounds, off Spring Lake
Road. Make checks payable to Holy Trinity or
see Rob, Hank or Donna.

Pray it With Flowers
The Altar Guild reminds us that a simple way to
beautify our historic church is with the dedication
of fresh flowers for a Sunday Service. Flowers
can be donated for all sorts of special occasions
including birthdays, anniversaries, births, as a
thanksgiving or as a memorial.
More than one person can
dedicate flowers on a
particular Sunday, and you
can either bring your own
flowers or have the Altar
Guild arrange them for you
on the Saturday morning
before.
Please sign up on the Altar Guild’s flower chart,
located in the Parish Hall, or use the flower
envelopes placed in the pews. Giving flowers to
the Glory of God is such a wonderful gift for
ourselves, and for our Sunday Worship.
Search Committee Update
The Search Committee has reviewed the initial
list of potential list of candidates and studied their
documents. We, also placed advertisements in
The Living Church and Episcopal Life, from which
we received candidates and contacting
references for others. September 1st will be the
last day we accept inquiries from potential
candidates. We hope to be directly interviewing
candidates shortly thereafter
.
Parish Recovers from Vandalism
Virtually all the damage caused in the July
28th vandalism incident at Holy Trinity has now
been repairs. Senior Warden Donna Bott noted
that except for the $500 deductible, insurance
covered the cost of all repairs and replacement.
In a heroic effort, Donna, along with Jerry
Wang, Bob Mower and
Ruth Mower, spent two
exhausting
weeks
connecting with the right
sources to make the
repairs to the parish and
its equipment, as
seamless as possible.
All the work was
completed within ten days
of the incident. The final
work, repairing the
colored glass next to the organ, was finished in
mid-August through a generous donation of
labor. Local builder Phil Mastrosimone,
reconstructed the wooden mullions, and Jim from
Lake Glass and Mirror installed the panes of
glass.
Prayer Shawl Ministry Meets in September
Prayer Shawl makers, a part of the Pastoral
Care Ministry, will begin meeting again in the
Parish Hall on Thursday, September 10th at
10am. All those interested- beginners and
experienced- are invited to join
in the fellowship. If interested
in learning, please feel free to
join.
Shawls can be used as a
comfort after a loss or in times
of stress; during an illness and
recovery; ministering to others;
during bereavement; prayer or meditation…there
are endless possibilities! A blessing or ritual may
be offered when the gift is presented. (from
www.shawlministry.com
) For more information
or to participate, please see or call Terry Colla
at 352-728-6604.
Dear Holy Trinity Congregation Members,
On behalf of each and every student at
Holy Trinity please accept my sincere thanks
and deep gratitude for your generous
donations of school supplies and snacks for
the student breaks.
It was truly rewarding to be able to
distribute student supplies during our recent
open house. The parents of the students
were deeply moved and very grateful that they
did not have to purchase school supplies with
the economy being so poor right now.
The students, who are taught responsibility
by paying a token fee for their daily snacks,
will now have the opportunity to enjoy a pizza
party or two with the snack funds collected .
Again, thank you so very much.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Boyd, Headmaster

Helping Holy Trinity School
The Vestry is encouraging ways in which
we can become more involved in our day school.
It’s one of our primary means of outreach to the
community, as the students there all have special
needs of one kind or another.
Headmaster Tom Boyd has suggested that we
can be involved through providing snacks for the
students to purchase. The price of the snacks is
kept low.... usually 25 to 50 cents each. Paying
for the snacks help the students learn
responsibility and self sufficiency. Sometimes
these snacks are the only food the students get
all day. We can help by
donating snacks. These can
be brought to the Parish Office
or marked for the school and
left on the left front pew of the
church on Sundays.
Suggested snacks include but are not limited
to: Ramen Noodles, Cup O Soup, Variety Snack
Packs (Cheetos, potato chips, etc), Easy Mac
Noodles, Granola Bars, Pudding Cups, Bottled
water, flavored water, Please, no candy!!
There is a limited amount of freezer space
available, so the school would also welcome
small numbers of Hot Pockets, Corn Dogs, Etc.
Money from sale of items will be used to provide
Pizza for the whole school from time-to-time.
Thank you for any help you can give in this
area of our ministry to Holy Trinity School.
Amy Rowell, Vestry Member
Dinner Groups Resuming in the Fall
Barb Coulter is finalizing dinner groupings for
the fall season. There are groups that either
“dine-in” at members homes and groups that
“dine out” at selected restaurants. Some
parishioners join both types of groups to double
the fun! If interested, contact Barb by email at
tcbarb10@aol.com
or phone at 751-7311
Yard Work Morning
The next yard work day is scheduled for…..,
well technically it’s not scheduled yet!
We have
taken a short break but the weeds have not. So if
you’re interested in helping keep our grounds and
gardens in beautiful shape, call Russ Casson at
787-0508- or he’ll find you!
Updates for Directories Now Available
For those of you returning from places far
away, there are new photo directories on a table
in the Parish Hall. In addition, the first updates,
containing 23 amended sheets, are available in
the folders sitting on the same table.
Please note that both the books AND the
Update packets have
parishioner names on them!!!
This allows us to keep track of
who has picked up books and
updates, and who still needs
the packets.
The project involved getting
photo shots of every
parishioner, and then updating
not only addresses and phones, but emails, cell-
phones, birth dates, anniversaries and even
original hometowns.
We found early on that the directories are a
great resource for finally placing the name to the
face, to get to know people from the “other”
service, or when socializing or even out
shopping.
There will be contests at the Sept.
26th “Welcome Back” Barbeque Party - so
start studying up on those names!!
For those parishioners who are out of town
for the summer, or may have gotten missed in
the assembly process, please contact Rob
Michaels at
ptownrob@comcast.net
if you have
a photo that can be emailed, or to complete your
information. Your “page” will then be inserted at
the next update.
Holy Hackers

September 12, at Pennbrooke Fairways. We
