We are God’s Servants Working Together
Everybody Can be a Pastoral Caregiver
The Rev.
Sally Dover,
retired priest and parishioner
here at Holy Trinity, has
accepted Fr. Larry’s request to
help develop a comprehensive
Pastoral Care program for the
parish.
Pastoral care relates to the concept of being a
shepherd or caring for our “flock”; following in the
footsteps of our Lord, caring about and for others,
starting with our own church family and then
reaching out to others.
Rev. Sally notes that, “we have had very
special people guide us in our outreach
ministries, and they continue to do so.” These
ministries in clued Habitat- both through the
stamp program and in actual construction; The
Christmas box gift project for children; working
with students in the School, especially through
the golf program, CROPWalk, and our Sunday
collection of food for the Salvation Army.
The program she has devised includes a
variety of opportunities for parishioners to give
comfort and assistance to members who might
need some spiritual and even physical
assistance. Among the ministries that are offered:
-
Give someone a ride to the doctor, a
meeting, to the store, or even to a party;
-
Visit or make a cheerful phone call to a
recovering or homebound parishioner;
-
Run an errand for a homebound parishioner;
-
Cook and deliver some soup, some fruit,
pudding, or a casserole to someone having
difficulty preparing their own meals;
-
Visit an hour or two so that a caregiver can
run some errands or just get a relaxation
break;
-
Send a card just to say “We miss you” or “Get
well”;
-
Participate in the Prayer Shawl ministry;
A Sign-up sheet is posted in the Parish Hall,
and the burden will be

New Sterling Silver Chalice is Dedicated
The beautiful new chalice and paten
purchased through parishioners’ gifts in honor
and appreciation of Fr. Michael Rowell’s service
to Holy Trinity was dedicated on July 21. Fr Larry
Recla preached and dedicated the set, while Fr.
Michael was the first celebrant to use them. The
chalice is inscribed, “IHO E. Michael Rowell,
Priest in Charge 2008-2009.”
In addition, Bishop Howe sent a kind letter
extending his blessing for the set and offered his
congratulations to Fr. Michael, as do we all.
Pastoral Care
(cont’d)
lightened if lots of parishioners sign-up to help
out, even to do one or two of the pastoral care
ideas. At the same time, the burden will be
lightened for our homebound parishioners, and
their families and caregivers will be comforted by
knowing that Holy Trinity cares for its members.
In addition, if you are interested in becoming a
Lay Eucharistic Visitor (LEV) to distribute
Communion to the homebound, there are
monthly meetings for this ministry.

Sept. 26th- “Welcome Back” Party
The Fellowship Folks have come up with a
great “Welcome Back- Beach Party & Barbeque”
at nearby Camp Geneva, planned for Sat., Sept.
26th from 1 - 7 pm.
The day will consist of relaxation, recreation &
fellowship in the outdoors, a barbeque meal with
all the fixings, and then
evening vespers on the
beach.
And for all you folks
who hate the mess Rob
makes in the kitchen,
there’s even better
news!! The folks at
Camp Geneva do ALL
the work from preparation to clean-up, so all can
enjoy the entire day without a care!
Outdoor facilities include a beautiful swimming
pool, picnic groves and sandy bathing area on
scenic spring-fed lake, canoes, paddle boats,
croquet, badminton and more. There is a large
adjacent air-conditioned cafeteria to avoid the
heat. Changing rooms
and showers are also
included, so bathers can
dry off before supper if
they choose.
The event costs $12
per person, including a
hot dog & hamburger
barbeque supper with all the fixings. We want to
make sure that no one misses the fun, so there
is a “scholarship fund” if anyone finds the cost
prohibitive, and we’ll even provide transportation
for those who need it. For the “scholarship,” just
see Fr. Larry or Donna Bott.
For those unfamiliar with the 107 acre Camp
Geneva, it has served as a national cheerleading
camp for many years, and lies just around the
bend from our church grounds. The folks there
seem thrilled to offer the place to the Parish.
More details in September’s TIDINGS, but
sign-up will be in the Parish Hall.
Prayers from St. George in The Villages
The morning after the break-in, Barbara Reali,
Senior Warden of St. George’s in The Villages
relayed the prayers and wishes from their Parish
to Holy Trinity, and our Senior Warden, Donna
Bott responded in gratitude for their kindness.
We’re thankful for their thoughtfulness as we
repair and renew the Parish after the break-in.
Church Property Vandalized on July 28
Holy Trinity was hit by a hammer wielding
vandal early on the morning of July 28th. Police
believe they caught the individual just after that,
as he was trespassing at the nearby Phillip’s
Buick. No one was injured, and most property
damage was limited primarily to windows, light
fixtures and office equipment. According to
Detective Bob Tracy of
the Lake County
Sheriff's Department, the
alleged perpetrator, a 26
year old homeless man,
has confessed and is
being held in the Lake
County
jail. This
destruction marks the first time in anyone’s
memory that Holy Trinity was subjected to
criminal activity.
Fortunately, physical damage was contained
primarily to lighting fixtures in the Parish Hall and
office, a few broken photo glass & windows,
including part of the colored glass near the organ,
and destruction of computer monitors, the copier
& electronic equipment.
In the church, the glass
on one of the shadow
boxes containing altar
hangings was destroyed,
as well some electronic
equipment and the main
sanctuary light.
As Father Larry noted, while our sacred space
was violated, it was not desecrated. In addition
to the regular Wednesday celebration of the
Eucharist and healing, Fr. Larry blessed the
church with sacred incense and led the ritual
to re-kindle the light of our sanctuary lamp.
Senior Warden Donna Bott noted that
except for the $500 deductible, insurance should
cover the cost of all repairs and replacement.
Ironically, the Vestry was already discussing
the need to install some sort of security system to
protect Holy Trinity from both fire and theft. This
incident will only speed the process along. More
information to follow as it unfolds.

Yard Work Morning- This Saturday- Aug. 1
The next yard work day is scheduled for this
Saturday, August 1, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
We
have taken a short break but the weeds have not.
We’ll be focusing on the garden outside the
Rector's office and along the fence line at
Paddock Point. Some folks may want to weed the
beds around the Church.
We plan to finish by noon or earlier if we get
tired or too hot. Remember to bring gardening
tools and gloves, and a hat would probably be a
good idea too. Thanks, Russ Casson 787-0508
New Directories Now Available for Parish
The new Parish photo directories are
completed and available in the Parish Hall for
pick-up. The project involved
getting photo shots of every
parishioner, and then updating
not only addresses and phones,
but emails, cell-phones, birth
dates, anniversaries and even
original hometowns.
We found early on that the
directories are a great resource
for finally placing the name to the face, to get to
know people from the “other” service, or when
socializing or even out shopping.
By the way, there will be a contest at the Sept.
26th “Welcome Back” Barbeque Party- so start
studying up on those names!!
The edition is
contained in a three
ring binder, so that
additions, deletions
and amendments can
be easily inserted in
their alphabetical order. Currently, there are
about 80 member sheets in the book, with others
to be added as soon as information or a photo is
available.
For those parishioners who are out of town for
the summer, or may have gotten missed in the
assembly process, please contact Rob
Michaels at
ptownrob@comcast.net
if you have
a photo that can be emailed, or to complete your
information. Your “page” will then be inserted at
the next update.
A special thanks to all the many volunteers who
helped collate and assemble this huge project-
There were 120 collated pages going into 120
binders- 14,400 pages in all! If you’d like your
copy mailed to your summer address, please
contact Ruth Mower in the office at
htecns@aol.com
or at 352-787-1500.
Prayer Shawl Ministry Meets on Aug. 5th
Prayer Shawl makers, a part of the Pastoral
Care Ministry, will meet in the Parish Hall on
August 5th at 11 am.
While they are called Prayer Shawls, Comfort
Shawls, etc., the shawl maker begins with
prayers and blessings for the recipient. The
intentions are continued throughout the creation
of the shawl. Upon
completion, a final blessing is
offered before the shawl is
sent on its way.
Some recipients have
continued the kindness by
making a shawl and passing it
onto someone in need. Thus,
the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with
both the giver and receiver feeling the
unconditional embrace of a sheltering, nurturing
God.
Shawls can be used as a comfort after a loss or
in times of stress; during an illness and recovery;
ministering to others; during bereavement; prayer
or meditation…there are endless possibilities! A
blessing or ritual may be offered when the gift is
presented. (from

Holy Trinity Banner Created with Love
One of the most noticeable
additions to the chapel this
spring is the beautifully
designed and crafted banner
representing the Holy Trinity
now hanging in the sanctuary.
Conceived & executed by
Amy Rowell, Sheri Banks and
Frances Justison, the banner
is a joyful representation of
the Trinity, expressed in both
dancing and celebration.
The project was completed in time for the
Parish’s 120th birthday and the feast day of the
Holy Trinity.
Dinner Groups Resuming in the Fall
Barb Coulter is beginning to finalize dinner
groupings for the fall season. There are groups
that either “dine-in” at members homes and
groups that “dine out” at selected restaurants.
Some parishioners join both types of groups to
double the fun! If you are interested, contact Barb
by email at
tcbarb10@aol.com
or phone her in
Michigan at 231-421-3079.

Totally Tubular Parish Outing!
The weather was absolutely perfect for the 31
Parishioners who met in Belleview for a day of
lazy tubing down the crystal clear Rainbow River
and a pleasant lunch that followed. Hank Childs
christened the group
“the River Rats,” and
brought a large
banner to prove it.
Organized in Fr.
Michael’s customary
efficient & simple
manner, we headed
west to Rainbow Springs State Park, just shy of
Dunellon, where the staff set us up with “inner”
tubes for the two-hour float down the river, while
Emil Pignetti & Lu Michaels went to the main part
of the Park to relax, instead.
The Parish was well represented by male &
female, young and old, and the Cails and Wangs
even made it a family affair by bringing along
their grandsons.
Once transported upriver by a bus carrying
parssengers and tubes, we “put in” at a ramp &
began the peaceful float. The west east side of
the River was primarily parkland and trees, while
the west side hosted a pleasant variety of
attractive homes. The morning sun was bright,
but not searing, and no one came away with any
serious sunburns. There was ample time for
fellowship, as various combinations of people
would float by and chat as the world drifted by.
Several of us, including
this author, fell out of
tubes while trying to
reposition, and had
difficulty getting back
into the tubes. It ain’t
easy being old or out of
shape!
The best solution seemed to be getting to the
west shore, then stand up and get back on, but
the current didn’t always cooperate. Due to the
clear water, what looked like a two-foot depth
was in fact over seven feet deep!
With one “minor” exception we all kept floating
down, with a special thanks to Cliff and Cody
Cail, and others who helped rescue the
distressed and “stuck” members, and kept an eye
out for those caught near the shoreline.
After the ride, we walked back to our cars &
went to nearby Gruff’s a “Gator Joe’s’” type open
café on the river, where we met up with Fr. Larry
& Sherry Recla and Al & Mary Ellis, were we ate,
drank and revelled in the day’s events. All in all,
a Great Day!
Holy Hackers Resume on August 8th
Returning tan and well-rested, golf-meister Pat
McLaughlin is ready to get the
Holy Hackers back on the golf
course, and into the restaurant!
The next scramble event is
happening on Saturday, August
8th at Pennbrooke. If you are
interested in playing, contact Pat
at 751-6487 to register. For those
who don’t play, feel free to join in the after party
at the Pennbrooke Club House, where the group
enjoys a meal and libations after the scramble.
Fellowship Folks Have Big Plans for Fall
An enthusiastic group of parishioners recently
met for planning fellowship events for the
remainder of 2009, hosted in the cozy New
England setting of Hank & Mary Childs’ home.
In addition to the September 26th
“Welcome
Back Beach Party & Barbeque
” the group came
up with a festive “
Oktoberfest
” scheduled for
Friday, October 23rd, and the traditional “
Dickens
Dinner
” to be held on Friday, December 11th.
More details will follow after the Committee
meets in early September.
First Aid Kits Kept in Kitchen & Sacristy
Parishioners should be aware that first aid kits
are kept in the kitchen on top of the refrigerator,
and in the sacristy. In addition, an automated
external defibrillator, or AED, is located in the
kitchen. The AED automatically diagnoses
potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias
and is able to treat them through defibrillation,
allowing the heart to reestablish an effective
rhythm. It is designed for easy use by the
layman.
In all emergency cases- the first step
is to CALL 911!
Minor Mystery on the Rainbow River!
During our trip, our Jack Cunningham became
tired & caught a ride on a passing skiff. At the
end of the rafting trip, Jack was nowhere to be
found! We checked drop-off points, the café, the
parking lot, and even called the police and
emergency rooms for fear of something dreadful.
After an hour’s search, it
turned out that the Ellis’s met
Jack at the café & were
driving to him get back to his
car. Somehow, we just kept
missing each other. Finally,
Jack & the Ellis’s arrived at
the café, escorted by officer Mike Penkirk from
the Marion County Sheriff’s office
!
