Welcome Fr. Larry- New Interim Pastor
The Rev. Lawrence R. Recla has become
our second interim pastor, effective April 1. For
the first few weeks he and Fr. Michael will be
working together to make as smooth a transition
as possible.
A pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
Father Recla (or Pastor or Larry) and his wife
Sherry retired to The Villages in 2005 after
serving at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Island
City, NY for six years. Prior to his
time there he ministered to congregations in
Pennsylvania, Utah, and Colorado.
He also has an extensive record as a
chaplain to many first responder, fire and law
enforcement agencies, most notably
immediately after the attacks on the World Trade
Center on September 11, 2001. He was also
a hospital and hospice chaplain in the Wyoming
Valley Health Care System (PA) and served as
their chaplain. He is currently the chaplain
for The Villages Fire and Rescue. You'll be
learning more about Fr. Larry in coming weeks,
and in future issues of Tidings.
The Episcopal Church and the Evangelical
Lutheran Church (ELCA) have been in full
communion since Epiphany 2001. While not a
merger of the churches, they entered into a
covenant of joint mission and witness to the
world, which allows clergy to move freely
between the two denominations. We expect Fr.
Larry to have his Diocesan license by Monday,
April 5th.
We all look forward to having Fr. Larry
accompanying us on our private and communal
spiritual journeys; the Vestry looks forward to
working with him, and benefiting from his special
gifts. The only unanswered question: Will he and
Sherry be spoilers for the Holy Hackers?

Blessing of Crosses on Good Friday
Father Larry Recla invites all parishioners on
this Good Friday to bring crosses that you may
wear or have displayed in your home. At the
time of the “Veneration of The Cross,”
parishioners will be asked to bring their crosses
forward for them to be blessed.
“Please consider this as a
possibility and an invitation
nor an instruction. You also
have my assurance that
blessed crosses don’t glow in
the dark, nor will crosses not
blessed lose any significance!”
Fr. Larry is looking forward
to seeing and meeting all parishioners with
Father Michael at the many worship
opportunities of the coming week.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Parker,
Charlotte, Katie, Stephanie and Valerie Bauer
on the passing of Parker’s mother Doris.
Rest eternal grant to her, O Lord: And let
light perpetual shine upon her. May her soul,
and the souls of all the departed, through the
mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
.
Interfaith Group Offering Sample Seder
Tuesday, April 7, at 4:30 pm, for anyone
interested, Larry Wallace, President of Temple
Shalom in The Villages, will lead a presentation
and demonstration of
the Passover Seder for
the Tri-County Interfaith
Coalition. The event is
free, but please call
Rob Michaels at 352-
750-0246 to make a
reservation.
The Passover Seder is
a major feast that commemorates the Exodus of
the Jews from Egypt. For Christians,
understanding the Jewish Seder can help
deepen their understanding of the context of the
Last Supper.
Temple Shalom is located on County Road 101,
one mile north of 466 (at Crispers) near The
Villages
The newly formed Tri-county Interfaith
Group (Lake, Marion and Sumter) will meet after
the event to discuss other upcoming events. The
group seeks to invite people of all faiths into a
deeper understanding of the origins and
expressions of the diverse religious cultures in
the world.

Anniversary Banquet. The keynote speaker was

Humanity International. James Fischer, CEO of

future.
The evening also was notable for the fact
that Lake/Sumter Habitat began its 150th home
the next day The food was delicious, and at the
end of the banquet everyone was given a
Habitat for Humanity tee shirt. Photos of the
event are on the Holy Trinity web site -

A Note of Thanks
“Bob and I would like to thank everyone
for welcoming us “home” to the Episcopal
Church. The liturgy was beautiful and we were
both so moved. The reception was wonderful –
as was the lovely cake. We have felt at “home”
at Holy Trinity for the past three years. Now we
are also “home” in the Episcopal tradition. We
cannot thank you enough.”

Join in “Labyrinth Walk” This Tuesday
The Gospel Study Group on the Square (aka
BottsPots) invites members and friends of Holy
Trinity to join them for the third annual Labyrinth
Walk at the Methodist Enrichment Center, 4991
Picciola Road, Fruitland Park on Holy Tuesday,
April 7 at 10 a.m.
For those who have not walked the labyrinth
before, the garden is a type of boxwood maze,
which can be “mindfully” walked as a form of
contemplation or meditation. It is both a relaxing
and refreshing activity set in the park-like
environment of the Methodist Center.
A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates
to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the
circle and the spiral into a meandering but
purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a
journey to our own center and back again out
into the world. Labyrinths have long been used
as meditation and prayer tools. Walking a
labyrinth is like taking a walk with God
There are many ways to experience the
labyrinth walk. The most
common use of the
labyrinth is as a spiritual
tool, a way of silencing the
noise and turmoil in our
busy lives, for centering
and meditative prayer. The
slow, rhythmic walking,
back and forth, eases the mind, and acts as a
full-body prayer. The walk will affect each
person differently, and may affect one person
differently each time it is done.
If you have enjoyed other forms of
meditation, or find walking helps you to think and
calm down, this form of prayer may be of
interest. It is a wonderful way to become
centered in our lives. Some people experience
profound joy, others become tearful. Some seek
answers to an issue or problem; others find
comfort from grief or relief from stress.
The center may be a place to receive or
be with God. Stay as long as you like. The
“journey out” is a transition; a gradual return to
daily life- back out the same pathway. Walk with
an open mind and an open heart. You may walk
with a prayer, a concern or a problem you wish
to lift up to God. You may wish to pause as you
enter or exit, or walk around the perimeter to
prepare or reflect.
Join your fellow parishioners for a wonderful
Holy Week experience- Call Donna Bott for
directions at 259 - 6087.
Holy Hackers Add Extra April Golf Day
John and Mary Jo Neidow are inviting any
and all that would like to play 18 holes at Water
Oaks to join them on Saturday, April 25. You
have already received Pat McLaughlin’s recap of
March’s Holy Hacker's Scramble, along with an
invitation to join in next month on April 18th for
the April festivities at Penbrooke.
The invitation by John and Mary Jo is a little
extra added attraction. That will be two
Saturdays of golf for some - but what the heck!
It's spring, the weather is great, and where else
are you going to find the kind of company and
camaraderie you get with the Holy Hackers? It
will probably work something like this - play the
front nine - have lunch - play the back nine -
then cocktails at John and Mary Jo's. Call Pat
McLaughlin at 751-6487 to confirm. Or sign up
at the Parish Hall.
Garrison Keillor Writes:
Episcopalians like to sing, except when confronted
with a new hymn or a hymn with more than four
stanzas.
Episcopalians believe their rectors will visit them in
the hospital, even if they don't notify them that they
are there.
Episcopalians usually follow the official liturgy and will
feel it is their way of suffering for their sins.
Episcopalians think that the Bible forbids them from
crossing the aisle while passing the peace.
Episcopalians drink coffee as if it were the Third
Sacrament.
Episcopalians feel guilty for not staying to clean up
after their own wedding reception in the Fellowship
Hall.
Episcopalians still serve Jell-O in the proper liturgical
color of the season and Episcopalians believe that it
is OK to pok e fun at themselves and never take
themselves too seriously.
And finally, you k now you are a Episcopalian when:
It's 100 degrees, with 90% humidity, and you still
have coffee after the service.
You hear something really funny during the sermon
and smile as loudly as you can.
